Byrds Bulls & Gibbons
Sunday, September 22, 4:00pm
St. John's Episcopal Church (Aptos)

Driftwood Consort presents "Byrds, Bulls & Gibbons," along with music by other humanoid luminaries of the medieval to renaissance eras. This program of polyphonic airs, chansons, madrigals, and dances is played on a consort of wooden flutes in different sizes, together with viola da gamba and voice. The renaissance flute is the wooden, keyless ancestor of today's modern silver flute, and - true to the multi-voice writing of its time - it likes to be played in company (consorts). Performing are Driftwood Consort (Lars Johannesson & Alissa Roedig on flutes, Amy Brodo on viol), with special guest Louise Carslake (flute) and soprano Sheila Willey. Savor a musical taste of the 14th-17th centuries as an appetizer to the region's renaissance fair season. $5 discount offered to attendees in period costume (door only). With aplogies for the anachronism, we will offer coffee at intermission.

This concert takes place on Sunday, September 22 at 4pm at St. John's Episcopal Church (125 Canterbury Drive, Aptos). Tickets are $20 (advance), $22 (door) and $5 (youth, door only) and are available in advance at brownpapertickets.com or at the door from 3:00pm onwards.
